Are you sure...?
Because knowing is actually only half the battle...
Knowing where to hit is another story!
I work and interact with trade business owners just about every day, and what I've found is that while many people claim to know who their target audiences are.
Many aren't actually getting the attention and results that they want?
The lesson from all this?
If you think you know who your target audiences are - but you can't get their attention... then you don't actually know them at all.
So what do you do now then...
Simple.
Get in tune with your market, and with your audience.
Know them intimately...
Gaining mass attention from your target audience requires some crucial and very specific steps.
Start with these four key areas:
1) Know why you exist
2) Know your audiences biggest pain points.
3) Learn how they consume content & where they look for it.
4) Learn how to get their attention with value / not just advertising.
You have to be absolutely crystal clear on what you're offering to your market, you have to be absolutely crystal clear on your market/audiences biggest pain points are, you have to understand how they consume it AND where they consume it, and you have to understand how to actually provide value and get command their attention.
Some key points:
You need to create marketing material that is target-audience-centric. Not self agenda centric - stop thinking only about yourself!
Find ways to have as many conversations as possible with your target audience by inviting them to share ideas with you.
Be willing to pivot and change what you may think they want to see, and listen to what they actually want to see.
Be consistent and patient with promoting your ideas as good things can take a little time to catch on.
Learn exactly where your target audience spend their time when consuming content? What platforms do they mainly use?
Find out what type of marketing material your target audience like to consume on a daily basis?
Why should they care about you and not all the other companies competing in the same space as you?
What makes you unique, what exactly is your x-factor and how can you solve their challenges with your products and services?
You must know their biggest pain points. What frustrates them… what are they desperate to get their hands on?
You need to collect this data by running surveys, ringing past customers, having conversations at scale and executing legitimate research.
You also need to understand how exactly your target audience like to consume content, do they read, watch or listen?
Now, I know what you're thinking.
"Bayley, that's a lot of work!".
And you're right.
But if you aren't going to this level of detail at a bare MINIMUM to understand who your audience is and to be completely in tune with your market, then your marketing just isn't going to perform as well as you want.
It's as simple as that.
Get clear on your targets, and you'll hit the mark every time.
