“Yeah, I Get I Need To Build Systems… But How?”
Every trade business owner is going to, at some point, need systems in their business.
Now this is for many reasons, however, the biggest is over reliance on you!
If you’re the only one who knows how everything gets done, and it all sits in your head… YOU are the biggest bottle neck in the business!!
From what jobs are happening, knowing what materials you need, to what invoices need to be sent and how, to what debtors need to be chased, managing jobs, selling, marketing, actual on the ground delivery, order materials etc. all churning around in your head, leaving it very difficult for others to follow what you’re doing.
Or maybe you’re seeing a lot of mistakes onsite and in the office, so you’re ALWAYS fixing mistakes!
There is a serious lack of processes or systems for people to follow and no clear outline of what’s expected, so you walk around thinking you would have done things differently…
Without you, your input, or your micromanagement, nothing gets done.
You have to be across everything… but how is it sustainable to be responsible for everything in the business?
Are you overworked and frustrated, or are your team? Do you have piles of paperwork, having to work lots of nights and weekends to make sure bills and wages get paid? Or is your team unproductive?
Do you have cash flow headaches, are your invoices taking weeks to get out and months to get paid, or quotes aren’t being followed up which hurts conversion and not winning work that you should be?
Is your marketing not working how it should, but you just don’t have the time to do anything about it? Do you have poor organisation, jobs are poorly planned, scheduled on the fly, ordering is chaotic?
Having the right systems in place gives you peace of mind, saving you and your team both time, money and frustration.
Systems run your business, people run your systems and you lead your people.
Really think about that line.
Systems give you LEVERAGE!
They are going to save you a lot of time and increase productivity both in the field and in the office because there will be clear outlines for how to do things, streamlined processes and procedures to follow AND you can get other people to do stuff the way you want them to do it.
Meaning you can leverage other people to get more done in less time!
You can also create a real business with equity and value, a sellable asset, because it’s not all in your head, someone could pick up and run it without you being there.
Systems get everyone on the same page, because you can’t do it all yourself!
Replace yourself, produce the SAME results every time and drive consistent performance!
Now, you’ve likely heard all this before…
Just about every business owner knows they need to implement systems if they want to decentralise themselves…
The real question is, where do you even start?
With so many tasks, duties, responsibilities, etc. in your business, it can be overwhelming not knowing what system you should focus on building first!
But it doesn’t have to be this hard…
All you need to do is ask yourself ONE simple question:
Where in my business am I bleeding the most?
Whether that’s bleeding in money, time or energy.
Think about, what are the problems that you continually have to solve? What issues keep happening? What keeps going wrong? What keeps bugging you? Where are you leaking cash? Where are you constantly having to put out the same fires?
Start there!
Rank your list from ‘’most critical’ to ‘least critical’.
Your list could be:
And so on…
Start at the top of your list and make your way down!
Set a goal to build at least one of these critical systems every week.
Come years end, you’ll have 50 systems in action!
Imagine how that could impact your business AND your life…
Have the discipline to commit to one system a week – you won’t look back!
