Society has become obsessed with the hero story.
Whether it’s Superman, Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein or even Gandhi… we’ve all come to idolise these sole ‘hero-like’ figures that have set out and achieved something great all on their own.
And now, people want apart of that success themselves. They want the status that comes with being ‘self-made’.
But this ‘do it on your own’, ‘self-made’ narrative is only masking the real story behind the success of these hero-like figures… And in turn, setting unrealistic expectations for those wanting to follow in their footsteps!
The reality is, nobody sets out and achieves success entirely on their own.
Anyone who has ever achieved something worthwhile, somewhere along the line in their journey was supported by a mentor, coach, influential figure, a team, their family, friends or colleagues, etc.
Albert Einstein’s first mentor Max Talmud introduced the ten-year-old Einstein to key texts in math, science, and philosophy. He also took one meal a week to his family for six years while guiding and developing young Albert. This assistance was integral to the success of Einstein!
However, because of these indoctrinated beliefs of what success looks like and how you’re supposed to achieve it, many don’t seek the assistance they need through others, often held back by common sayings like “work hard on your own and you’ll get there”, or “Don’t ‘cheat’ your way to the top through someone else”.
This is a dangerous mindset to have as a business owner.
And it’s why so many trade business owners often go years or even decades without seeking the basic assistance that they need in order to take their business to the next level.
If you are to succeed in life and business, it’s important to recognise that your level of success will depend on more people than just yourself…
Remove the ‘self-made man’ mindset and seek to leverage those around you. We guarantee you will achieve far greater results than you ever would on your own… That’s just a fact.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African proverb.
